What does positive eye do?

Children with a visual impairment are now being included and educated in the mainstream school setting.   Supporting the needs of children with visual impairments can be complex and requires the expertise and specialist skill of a qualified teacher of children with visual impairments.  It requires the class teacher to develop knowledge and expertise on the most effective ways to include the child in their class and maximize their potential learning opportunities.  Positive Eye has been established to support local authorities, services for children and government organizations in their work to offer effective training, consultancy, advice and support to educational professionals in their day to day inclusion of children with visual impairments within the mainstream setting.   

 

Positive Eye aims to support:

Teachers, teaching assistants and Special Needs Co-ordinators.

Specialist teachers and teaching assistants for children wtih visual impairments.

Trainee teachers and teaching assistants attending accredited courses

Government education departments and organisations involved delivery of educational services to children with visual impairments

Our training and consultancy services are of invaluable use to any school, organisation or service needing assistance to fulfil the legal requirements of the:

Understanding how to successfully meet children's needs requires specific training, advice and guidance. Schools, services or organisations may be seeking more detailed advice or new ideas to ensure provision or access is enhanced or delivered more efficiently. Positive Eye can help you overcome such tasks successfully through the delivery of bespoke_courses, consultancy_advice or by attending one of the standard training courses.

What are your options?

Here at Positive Eye we have three options available to you to ensure we meet your needs in the most effective way.

1. Consultation Service – This is a bespoke service providing advice specific to the needs of your service, organisation or school.

2. Bespoke Training Service – We can develop and deliver bespoke courses on visual impairment to meet the training needs of your service, organisation or school.

3. Standard Training Courses – We have a range of ongoing training courses on varying visual impairment topics. These courses are open to any individual interested in attending and delegate places can be booked by completing the booking form.

About Gwyn - the Visual Impairment Specialist

Gwyn is a passionate, committed and motivational individual, with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of education and visual impairment. She has Qualified Teacher Status (Cert.Ed) and Qualified Teacher of Children with Visual Impairments Status (BPhil. Spec.Ed. V.I. Distinction) which is further enhanced by her experience which includes:

• Six years as a mainstream teacher, teaching in secondary mainstream educational settings.

• Eleven years, as a teacher of children with visual impairments, supporting the inclusion of children with visual impairments from 0 –18 years old, in mainstream educational settings.

• Five years managing a Local Authority, Peripatetic Support Service for Children with Visual Impairments.

Gwyn really understands both the issues and barriers for practitioners working with children with visual impairments and she also understands the issues for children and young people being educated in a mainstream setting. Gwyn aims to provide courses that meet this need by offering practically based, solution focused, strategies and approaches.
